Why every report ends with one action
A report that lists twelve things gets twelve things ignored. Here is how we choose the single recommendation at the bottom of every pack.
When we started, the weekly report ended with a long list of suggestions. Store owners read the first one and closed the email. So we cut the list to one.
The numbers on this page are an example week.
How we pick it
Every week we look at what moved, then rank the possible actions by how much money is at stake and how long the work takes.
The top of that list becomes the action in your report.
Restock the blue tote before Thursday. It sold out twice and is your top seller.
Before and after
We compared the old list-style report with the one-action report.
| Report | Suggestions | Opened | Acted on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Old list | 7 | 61% | 9% |
| One action | 1 | 64% | 38% |
These figures are placeholders for the sample post. Replace them with real ones before publishing.
What you do with it
- Open your report on Monday.
- Read the action at the bottom.
- Do it, then come back next week to see what moved.
I used to skim. Now I just do the one thing.Store owner, in a note to support
